Mike Harrison tells this story about a night when shots were fired in the Cellar:
John was a floorman and one of a floorman's jobs was to seat and wait on female customers. He had seated a girl, brought her a drink and was talking with her when a guy walked up to the table and yelled "So you're the #%@$&# she's been fooling with!" and pulled a .25 automatic pistol and shot John between the eyes. The bullet did not penetrate John's skull but followed the skull line under John's scalp, coming to rest under the skin at the rear of John's head.
According to Mike, John roared
"OUCH! You SON OF A BITCH!" and reached across the table, snatched the guy up
and bounced him several times on the way to the entrance where he threw the guy down
the stairs!
John then walked down the stairs, dragged the guy back up to the top and threw him down
the stairs again!
Mike says John needed to repeat this procedure twice more before he was satisfied that he
had gotten this guy's attention.
Mike didn't say whether John went to the hospital but it's a safe bet that the shooter
did!
And Chuck Evans tells of
The night when the 2 Mexican gentlemen were
sitting at a table close to Jimmy early in the evening, around 7:30. It was quiet and Jim
had the tape going and we were all sitting around waiting on things to start, when all of
a sudden one dude stands up and shoots the other one in the head a point blank range. He
then turned and aimed the gun at anyone he saw as he headed for the stairs. Just as he
reached the top of the stairs Jim hollered out "somebody grab that motherfucker"
and like an idiot I went after him and dove from the top of the stairs and caught him
about 2/3s of the way down to the first landing and rode him to the bottom. All the while
he was trying to reach over his shoulder and shoot me while I was trying to keep him from
it. I tried to stuff him in the key hole at the bottom but he wouldn't fit. Anyway,
someone, I'm not sure who, dragged him off the bottom landing and laid his legs on the
landing and jumped on his kneecaps. When the ambulance showed up for the
"shooting" they carried off the shooter on the stretcher and treated the shootee
at the table where he was sitting finishing his drink. Hence the headline in the Fort
Worth Press the next day:
" SHOOTING AT CELLAR - SHOOTER HOSPITALIZED "
