Sammy Sams - Bassman Supreme

Sammy Sams played upright bass with some of the best show bands in Dallas - Fort Worth in the 50's and 60's.
Occasionally, Sammy would drop in at the Cellar to sit in after hours.

On one such occasion, it is told, Sammy came in with his upright bass in it's soft cover. He was immediately invited to play but he said
"in a minute, I'm going to uncase my axe in the musicians room. The "musicians room" was a small room in the back of the Cellar where the musicians could relax on their breaks. There were a couch and a chair in there and a small coffee table.

The band onstage finished their set and someone asked "what happened to Sammy?" The drummer went to look for him and this was his report: "I looked in the musicians room and there was a couple making out on the couch and there stood Sammy, playing his bass softly. Sammy looked up and said
"I play all occaisions."
